Hugh Thornton asks: Maybe a dumb question, but what is the difference between Stronglight 57 and 63 cranks? There are some visible differences in the chainrings but the cranks look very similar.

The Type 63 is one of my all-time favorites. It has the graceful profile of the 49D, with the spider of the later model 93. If I'm correct, the 57 is identical except for the chainring attachment bolts. The 57 uses a smaller diameter, perhaps 7 or 8 mm, while the 93 adopted the 10 mm. "standard" used by Campagnolo.

I infer this because I once picked up a chainring for a song to match my 93/63 spares, but on inspection noticed that it would not mount w/o boring out the holes. Sold it instead of that particular form of sacrilege.
