I think perhaps Aelle was available in butted as well as straight gauge tubes, but I'm not sure about that.

Yes, there is/was a butted version called Aelle "R" and it's usually labeled with a big red "R" on the decal so there's no mistake. I have seen very few frames made from it, compared to regular Aelle frames.
Any body know what the "R" stands for? I can't think of anything in Italian that fits.
