The full name was Sugino Mighty Competition and they were some of the first Campy Nuovo Record knockoffs, using the same 144mm BCD chainring size. They first appeared on the US market about 1972.

The crankarms were forged aluminum and came in a unique 171mm length. Sugino later made them in some longer and shorter "standard" lengths. The chainrings were cheap replacements for Campy NR rings.

Gitane started using these on their 1972 or 73 Tour de France bikes replacing Stronglight model 93 cranks.

They were available with French or British pedal threads and French, British and Italian BBs.

Sugino Maxi cranks appeared about the same time as the Mighty Competition model. The crankarms were "melt forged" (pressure cast) aluminum.

On the first version the large chainring was swagged on to the right crankarm. Subsequent versions had a 3 bolt chainring carrier swagged on to the arm. Eventually the changed to a 5 bolt pattern.

Gitane Interclubs, their amateur racing bikes started coming with these cranks about 1973. For some odd reason a lot of these bikes came with 165mm crank arms.

There were several SR also made some cranks like these but clunkier. There were a few wage failures on these style cranks so they started of with a bad reputation.
