Good day all,

Offered for sale to the list (and may I remind you that the '82 and 66 c-t Gazelle Champion Mondial I posted yesterday is still available), a charming Springfield Special frame and fork, in a very nice silver metallic.

Size is 54 c-t seattube, 54.5 c-c toptube, and 122 mm (?? probably had a wheel with 125 hub in there) rear spacing. Tubing is unknown, but these are the weights for frame and fork: 2245 grams (incuding gearlevers and headset) and 730 grams (including crown race). Seatpost is 26.8 mm, so its probably Columbus Aelle or some Japanese tubing. Brake fitting is nutted, bb shell is English threaded. The anonymous headset is included, and works fine. The Campagnolo gearlevers are also included.

Whats the story with Springfield, you might ask. Springfield was the brandname of a bikeshop (Hoogland) in Haarlem (yes, the origin of the name Harlem New York). In the 70s their frames were build by 'Witte Ko', the same guy that build my Visser Vainqueur. Witte Ko was a prolific frame builder, not exactly an artist, but he really had the feeling for the right geometry for race bikes. The owner of the shop thought that the name Springfield held an aura of quality (the rifles), so he chose that name for the bikes.

Pictures of the Springfield frame are here:
