Jerry,

As you and other listers know, I have been wrestling with saddle fit since before I joined the CR community. I now may have spent enough money (with the steel-railed cutaway Ideale seat) to solve the problem on at least one of my good road bikes...

My only issues with the seat and seat post selection is now the setback. For my Eisentraut (a 73-73 parallel frame with a 54 CM TT) I think I need a 27.2 MM post with a lot of setback--about 2.5 CM--to get properly placed re: the cranks and pedals as well as obtain enough front length/seat-to-bars distance. (Using my alloy-railed cutaway Ideale saddle on my 'Traut I could never get the saddle far enough back using a straight post with the Ideale clamp, and always ended up sitting on the rivets. Very frustrating, considering how comfy that saddle is just forward of the copper...)

The other bike, the 1975-ish Allegro, has a longer 55 CM TT and (I think) a more slack 72-72 parallel design, so I may be able to use a 26.6 MM post with less setback, or even a straight post with the Ideale alloy-railed saddle and clamp, and get a good fore-and-aft fit.

Having the steel-railed Ideal cutaway saddle that I just won on ebay makes getting at least one of my bikes outfitted with an Ideale saddle a possibility, but I still need to explore more saddle/post/frame combos to get there.

Which CR-era seat post(s) that are appropriate to the Allegro would have the most setback? Any recommendations from CR land other than the two-bolt Campi NR post or the Simplex steel post? I don't want to miss any good combos when I have such a wealth of experience available to me.

Thanks again,
