Yes, agree that it is sad to see the nice Colnago pointed out by Charles parted out, but here's what the seller had to say when I wrote him regarding the subject:

"Thanks Kevin, Ive been in the bicycle industry approx 26 years and was riding vintage road bikes when it wasnt cool (and they werent so vintage or valuable) and I am aware of the potential value as a "collector" bicycle. These days I am less concerned about collectibility as I am rideability. Im leaving the house shortly to visit my 4 year old son that just got moved from children oncology to picu, thats whats important to me. My priorities have changed. Its just a bicycle. If someone wants to offer a large sum of $$ for the complete bike, fine, otherwise I am going to rebuild it with period correct parts that will make it more enjoyable for me to ride. your comments were/are not taken the wrong way. larry"

He is absolutely right, and following his reply, I immediately said some prayers for both Larry and his son.

This puts materials stuff in the right perspective.

It seems rather sad that this seller feels like he has to part out his very-rare, intact, original colnago pantografata. He could keep the parts for the next owner, or he could just find another Colnago with similar style, if not quite the same, and use that as his regular rider.

These are very tough to find intact now..I hope he's not going to re-space the frame too, but, guess what? He probably is. Maybe if we all wrote him polite notes urging him to re-consider, he might.

He knows what he's doing isn't exactly pretty, but it's not stopping him.

Too bad.
