Subject: [CR] Campy Nuovo Tipo hubs with kidney bean cutouts

A number of years back someone on a CR ride pointed out that their bike had Campy Nuovo Tipo hubs with kidney bean shaped cutouts in the flanges like NR/SR hubs rather than the normal round holes. They had the Campy NT logo stamped in the center section and NT skewers.

Several years ago I picked up an almost all original 1972 Motobecane Le Champion (Dura-Ace brake levers instead of Universal plus new tires and toeclip straps). It had these same hubs.

Since then I've seen them on a number of other pre 1975 Motobecane Le Champions and maybe a few Grand Records.

Anyone know about these hubs. I was told that they were pretty rare. Were they made special for Motobecane?
