Back in the late 60's I rode a criterium in the Detroit area (Debaets Memorial?). Jocelyn Lovell, then a junior, rode the senior race, and won it (I never saw the front). I could add to the legend if I said he won the junior race preceding the senior event, but I don't know if that's true....might be... Anyway, the awards ceremony was at the Belgian-American Hall, and afterwards, when I emerged, Lovell and another Canadian were sitting on the curb in front of the hall, annoyed and disgusted. They had not been allowed in the hall to receive their prizes because beer was being served and they were underage.
