There is a nice "trick" use for these, one that keeps the vintage flavor of a slightly-too-small bike for a bendover-challenged "mature" rider. If you reverse the direction of the part that goes into the head, then the part that projects forward projects up-and-out at about a 30 degree angle, instead of level. This gives something that looks pretty authentic, but a more comfortable riding position.
