Hi gang,

I may have gone over the edge but a fews ago I purchased a 28in Raleigh roadster with rod brakes in excellent condition for $500.00. It had all the bell's, full chaincase chainguard, Brooks B66, pinstrips and great shiney ( very rare ) paintwork I'm a dealer in used bikes so you would think I'd know the value. But I wanted it so bad and had been trying to buy it for 4 years. The gentleman that had it was convinced it was worth over a $1000.00 (maybe one day). I still ride it regularly and it still looks great.

We sell similar bikes (few are in near as good condition ) conpletely overhauled and updated with new tires, brake pads etc. for $250-450 generally. They are generally are so much work that after purchase and service I'm convinced there is not a dime made on any transaction. They take so long.

Consequently I have 5 of these for sale that will be ready in 1-3 years.

$300 is possibly justifiable but only if it has fine parts & is in xlnt condition.

Brooks B66 or better...Quality tires...S/A hubs&rims... Beaver tail (ie.,oil-bath chain guard) S/A or better generator&lamps.

Or at least good paint, Good chrome on rims & brakes linkage, straight frame & guards.

There are far more of these bikes than than there are buyers.

But the ride is sweet.
