To my recollection, the 2's worked just fine. It was the Syncros 1's that didn't. It wasn't so much the shifters, it was their untested notion that you could convert any gearing system by almost any manufacturer to index using the Syncros and the appropriate internal collar. Since then, the rest of the world, including the boys it Italy, have realized there are certain design considerations that must be adhered to in the rear d to achieve reliable index shifting.
