I think that was Dwight (Ike) Safter at Glen Ellyn. Don't have any idea what happened to him, and the last I knew of him was in the 80s. In the early 70s, he worked at Turin in Chicago when it was near Lincoln Park.

Wow, what a blast from my past. I worked with Ike Safter at Turin, Evanston IL from ~73-74; when he left to try his own small & "...VERY, VERY sorry" mottoed person in Wheaton. Unfortunately, he spent 30-60 minutes per customer, and didn't charge by the hour, had mucho competition within 3 blocks , SO lasted only a few tragic, but EXCELLENT service years to my neighbors... Yes, I have lived & cycled & recycled lots of vintage & trashmo's between the Fox River and DT Chicago since 1987.
I and the alums of Turin, Evanston have lost touch with Ike since about ~1985. I last saw him at his shop while living in neighboring Glen Ellyn around about 1982-83.
So guys what's the rest of the earlier story? A very nice lady from Silver Springs MD put me onto your "chat/type shop" just yesterday!
I can try to revisit vintage collector Ike with Dan Joseph, my friend & former founder/mgr. of Turin, Mark Mattei, and a few other assorted Chicago area old roadies/mechanics like me. (ps Mark, of Cycle Smithy, => just finished a Southby's show & sale of Very, Very vintage machines, just last week!!!. While I stopped in only for a few moments, Mark always shows excellent to top quality cycles...
