Knowledgeable list members:

Last night I was working on an early trek 520 (Reynolds 531 and lugged frame) and am curious about the head lugs-it seems as if the head lugs are cast with the head tube in one-piece, the top tube and down tube then brazed into this one-piece assembly. Am I correct in this observation?

A little bit of perhaps helpful information regarding brakes and indexing -I installed SunTour 7 speed index bar end shifters, a SunTour 7000 derailleur and a 6 speed SunTour free wheel with proper cable housing and the indexing works pretty well. Additionally, I used old-style campagnolo brake levers on diacompe 986 cantilever brakes and the feel is acceptable (not overly spongey but regrettably not nicely firm-I know one problem is that I use a diacompe steel cable hanger (I forget the proper term, the part slides onto the headset and holds the cable housing above the brake) which Flex's a great deal under brake load. The cable hanger actually moves approximately 1 mm under load. Thank you for considering my question.
