Use jewelers rouge and a buffing wheel. It might not get all of the shoe-rub off, but it will make those cranks come ALIVE! On a French note. Grant Handley gave me a tip that I tried. I took an old pair of MAFAC Dural Forge's and had the hardware chromed. After polishing the rest with rouge, I assembled them and put them on my '67 PX. There isn't one bike nut that doesn't notice my brakes. Even non-bike nuts stand at attention. Trying something different from time to time keeps our hobby fresh.
