Dale, et al,
One way you might be able to pin down the year of Catalog #7 is the specs for the S-10S, if it's in there. There were big changes from 76 to 77, and I believe it was 78 that it became the S-12S. Basically, as I recall, the S-10S went from straight gauge 2030 tubing in 76, with a 3 pin Sugino Maxy crank, to double butted 2030 and 5 pin Maxy in 77. I'm pretty sure that was also the first year for the 6 speed freewheel in the S-10S. In late 77 or 78, there was also a S-10S LTD model, with a cro moly frame and sidepull Diacompe G brakes in place of the center pulls of the standard model. So, if you really want to know what model year the #7 catalog is, those are clues.
And if you have any of the pages that cover the S-10S of that era, I'd love a scan of them. See, the first bike I bought for myself (as opposed to gifts from parents) was a 77 S-10S. I had the choice of a closeout deal on a 76, or a new 77, and decided the changes were big enough to pay the higher price for the 77.
