Hi All
I'm starting on my first real bike restoration (as opposed to clean-up) project. The bike I'm working on, a late 70s Falcon, needs paint, but the chrome half stays are in very good shape. I assume it's possible/practical for the painter to strip the paint for the repainting, and preserve the original chrome. Am I wrong about this?
Parts wanted: I've been saving a nice pair of lightly used Campy GS regular reach brake calipers for the project, but now that I have the frame, I discover that it needs nutted attachments and mine have recessed hex bolts. Does anyone have a pair of regular-reach GS calipers with nutted attachments they'd like to swap?
Failing that, since the Falcon is nice but certainly not a rarity whose "originality" should be preserved at all costs, what about drilling out the mounting holes? I assume this is no problem with the fork crown, but I also assume it's out of the question for the rear brake because it would weaken the seatstay bridge? Am I wrong about this?
