Just a quick howdy and intro. I was on the list for a short while earlier this year, but dropped it in the midst of a move. Now that I'm more or less settled in, I'm back. I live in Portland, Oregon now, and starting to explore the city a bit. I've long been fascinated with classic bikes, but sad to say, can't really afford the "habit" just now. Although I do have two semi classic bikes...well, the frames are anyway. My main road bike is my beloved old 1980 Trek 414 (bought from Larry Black back in '80--hi Larry!). It's definitely in need of paint, and I'm sure it will never top the "classics" chart, but I love the way it rides. I haven't kept it "original" in terms of parts either...it's had any number of different components on it now. I've also got a Fuji Allegro frame, of unknown vintage...I think mid-80s...anyone know Fuji serial numbers? I haven't built it up yet, but will be doing that shortly, with whatever mix of parts I have in the basement. It's also no great classic, but in this day of TIG welds and non-ferrous frames, I think both the Trek and Fuji are in their own, quiet way classics. One day I hope to build a modest collection of classics...I have a real fondness for older Raleighs, having once had an early 70s Competition, sadly too small for me. Meanwhile, I'm happy with what I have, and reading about all of your bikes and projects.
