I have a nice bike that I am about to finish restoring, and I will not be riding it in its completed "display" state. I had to work way too hard to find the correct toeclips, toestraps and NOS tubulars (among other stuff). That was only 1985 vintage stuff, I can't imagine trying to find NOS 1960's tires! There is nothing special about the frame, it's a hand-brazed Trek 770. All the parts are correct date SR. My plan is to enjoying riding this bike again, but to preserve some of the wear-prone and hard-t- replace parts. To that end, I plan to switch out the wheels with similar-looking modern clinchers and switch to my normal Time pedals or some less precious clip and strap models. This will take about 10 minutes before and after each ride. I will never even have to glue my vintage tires! Someday I might through together a set of old-looking modern tubulars to regain that aspect of the ride and handling.
