Subject: [CR]WWII blackened parts

I'm looking for any information about parts that were painted black during WWII. The only parts I've seen "blackened" were from England. I know of two reasons for doing this; one was so the planes and bombers couldn't see you and the other was that chrome was being used for the war effort. I've always found this blackening to be more beautiful than the chrome and rue the day I sold my Raleigh that was totally blacked out. I do still have a blackened S-A hub left at my folk's house in Idaho. Did anyone else but the British do this? How rare is this stuff? Is it worth more than standard parts?

thanks, Brandon"monkeyman"Ives
