YEARS ago we used to take apart a hub set and repack the hub with new balls and oh-so-pink Simichrome polish (I heard of people using tooth paste and buffing compound too.

Then, we would take a short section of surgical tubing and place one end over the axle (hopefully a snug fit) then put a short section of rod in the other end of the tubing. Chuck that piece of rod into a electric drill and let er go! Usually only a half hour or so of spinning (Watch out for over heating at too high a speed!) would be necessary.

Take the hub apart, throw the bearings away and SCRUPULOUSLY clean out every trace of Simichrome (Lapping compound) from the innards.

Repack with new grease and loose balls (and Desi Arnez.)
