Okay, the trivia question, and I don't know the answer myself - who wrote the Bicycling! magazine article in the early to mid 70s that detailed just this procedure? When did it run? Am I dead wrong and was it a Bike World article?

I don't think it was a Fred DeLong article, and I don't remember Frank Berto writing about hubs. If it was Bicycling!, it wouldn't have been William Saunders (though it was his sort of article) ....
