Subject: [CR]Sturmey Archer SW Revisited

Greetings all, I've got a couple of questions to pick the brains of the Sturmey Archer hub aficionados out there. I realize that this may be a little bit off topic, so we can take this off list if necessary. Now that I have two SW hubs, I have decided to build a wheel around one of them. One of the hubs is a 57' and has an axle set-up similar to an SA 4-speed - in other words, there is an indicator rod protruding from the left. The other hub is a 59' and lacks this feature - it has a indicator chain set-up similar to an AW. All of the literature that I have shows a set-up like the 59'. What I am wondering is: -When did they change the indicator/axle design? -Can an indicator from an AW be used in the 59'? -Will a standard SA trigger shifter work? -Would the 59' adjust similar to an AW (even with the indicator chain pulled all the way out, you don't see the end of the rod as you do with an SW) I'm assuming the 57' would adjust similar to a 4-speed? -Any one know of any sources for parts?

BTW. I have a good copy of a Schwinn Shop Manual from the late 60's that has an excellent service section for this hub (among many others). If anyone would like a copy, I'd be glad to send one out snail-mail.

Many thanks in advance,
