Greetings from the great state of Maine, My name is Jim Ostrowski and I am an innkeeper in Camden, Maine. I have always had an interest in classic light weight bikes and finally am moving ahead with my interest. Currently, I own 5 bikes...a Serrotta Colorado, a custom touring bike made by Steve Bilinky of Philadelphia (a 50th b'day present from my family), 2 mid 80's mountain bikes by Gary Fisher and a late 70's Masi Prestige....I ride all of them.
My questions are about the Masi. I purchased the bike from a shop that had taken it in on consignment about 2 years ago. Prior to that the bike had only been ridden once...for a photo shoot for a magazine back in the late 70's and then put into storage until the original owner (a NYC dealer/importer of Italian bikes) decided to sell some of his collection. I ride it occasionally (about 300 total miles on the bike) and love the ride and feel of it. The bike is, other than very light use marks on the pedal cages and gearing, one small lean scratch on the top tube and a lean scuff on the seat, perfect. It is equipped with super record brakes, front and rear derailleurs, a fluted Campy seat post w/Masi on it, an Ideal 2002 saddle, Cinelli stem and bars w/leather sew on bar covers, Super Record cranks(I think) and the pedals are Campy with black cages with Binda Prestige straps. The frame is a medium gray with yellow decals on the down tube (Masi Prestige) and on the top tube is Alberto Masi's signature. Other decals are on the seat tube...Reparto Course, Masi and a triangle at the bottom stating "Made in Italy". The shield on the head tube is an oval decal with a "fleur du lis" (spelling?), Masi and "made in Italy". I don't know enough about the lugs to say what they are, but the finish, brazing and paint are top notch. Drop outs are Campy and chromed as is the rear stay on the right. Braze ons are as follows...on top of the top tube, 3 rings to keep the rear brake cable, water bottle on down tube and a cable guide for the rear derailleur on the top of the bottom bracket. Hubs are Galli, the freewheel is very light (I was told that it's titanium) and has Everest stamped on the freewheel along with Italy. Wheels are Araya Titaace. The frame pump is a Silca with the Mast name and logo on it. The whole thing weighs just over 19 pounds. OK you wizards, what have I got here other than a super riding bike??
