My first "Real 10-Speed" was a Louison Bobet from the Cyclopedia out of Cadillac Michigan. It came with tubular tires and a steel Stronglight cottered crank. I was very excited about the Mafac centerpull brakes, which I considered a grade up from the "Schwinn-approved" Weinmanns on my Continental. The Bobet, which I always thought was pronounced "Bo-bet", was a comfortable lugged steel frame, 531 straight gauge main tubes for the model I bought, I think. It was the best I could afford. I believe it was from Mercier, which is why when I upgraded it a few years later I got a green Mercian. I thought they were related or something.
