Lads and Lassies - (I welcome private replies, but hope you will not post replies to the list) In the midst of this season of joy and thanksgiving, a time when commerce slows and many of us have the luxury of reflection, may I offer a plea for the health of our list?

I'm feeling deluged. Just too many messages. I've gotten into heavy filtering, and expect that I'm missing some important things. So, here's my plea:

After receiving a message, please take a deep breath before responding. If it is a question, and you are sure you know the answer, please respond. If (as often happens with me), you just think you have the right answer, or have an opinion, why not wait and see if a "definitive" answer arises in the next day or so?

Please avoid "me-too" messages, and "attaboys"

Particularly if it is marginal to the group's interest (which includes the nice reports on cyclocross championships, etc), please be sure that the subject line clearly identifies the topic.

Others will legitimately differ, and I respect that, but to me the essence of this list is the exchange of information on classic vintage bikes and parts, and notification of needs or availability of bikes, parts, web sites, and such.

After hectoring and nagging, I do want to thank everyone for the almost complete lack of flaming and other deviations from the dying arts of civilized conversation. It does make the list a pleasure, and I am thankful to all of you.

Thanks for your time and consideration. Again, let's not start a thread on this issue.
