These sound like "Nuovo Tipo" hubs. Since "Nuovo Tipo" just means "new type" in Italian, I've often wondered if that's just a name they've acquired over the years, since there's no type marking anywhere on the hubs, at least on the ones I have.

They use the standard 1/4" rear, and 3/16" front bearing balls.

I got mine used, but they cleaned up beautifully using a buffing wheel, followed by a final hand polishing with Simichrome.
