David, Here is some info that you might find usefull. It came from apgmaa@earthlink.net (Andrew & Merilee Gillis):

I agree with your assessment that the frame could be anytime between 73-77, presuming that the rear end is 120mm. My catalogs do detail differences in the bicycles; my 1979 model was supposedly the top model frameset, made with cast lugs, Columbus SL and lots of chrome. My 1980ish catalog shows the Super Record, Record Special and Record bicycles, and the frame is the same, with cast lugs, Columbus SL tubes and chrome. The Treviso model has some sort of Columbus tube mix, and the main frame has no chrome at all on it. The fork crown and seatstay cap engravings remain the same.

My 1982 catalog added one top model, the Prestige S, with Columbus KL tubes and hidden rear brake and rear derailleur cables. A touring model, Tre Cime, follows with a Campy triple chainring (SL tubes). The next one down is the Super Record Special, followed by the Treviso (upgraded to full SL tubes but with a Campy Grand Sport group). Lastly, an Italia model takes up the bottom rung (3 tubes SL and Grand Sport group); this is the same bike as the 1980 Treviso. I hope these descriptions make some sense. regards, Andrew Gillis

Back to the possible purchase of another Pinarello, my 85 one sounds a lot like yours, but this other Pinarello has chromed headlugs, fork crown, above the BB derailluer cable guides, no GPT embossing, wonderful headbadge of course, down-tube shifter pegs, similar cut-outs in the bottom bracket, and the head and seat-tube lug cut-outs are more of a plain triangular design rather than the "clove" cut out that I have on my 85 one. I was told that this other model was most likely a 77 model. Don't ask me how the determination was made. From what I can tell it could be 73?--77? or any other number somebody would want to pull out of the air. I really don't know how to tell, or what model it is for that matter. Can I safely assume that Pinarello made several different road models, much as they do today? Does your printed info detail the differences between models?
