Ladeees and Gentlemennnnn!

This years CIRQUE du CYCLISME Sunday, May 6th, appears to be mushrooming into the coolest gathering of eccentric but lovable Vintage Bike folks ever!

I have just gotten a number of confirmations that really excite me about the 2001 Cirque! I will not list the folks who say that they are planning to come (I would like them to announce that themselves) but a whole bunch of great people are signing in from all around the USA and abroad!

I urge any of you who are planning to attend to not delay and call for reservations at the Battleground Inn 336-272-4737 ASAP! Those near-the-action rooms will soon be gone and it is nicer there than out beside the Interstate! I reserved a room there today and FWIW the rates now appear to be $60.00 night, which is up a bit from when I first inquired and listed them in the web page.....

BIG news is that Brian Baylis* will be attending and has kindly agreed to be our Vintage bike show judge! Again this year we will have a casual and friendly award process in which he will select his favorites in various categories. In 2000, this role was ably performed by Jim Cunningham of CyclArt (Thanks again Jim!)

Also, on the Sat before the Cirque, May 5, for CR folk and my local club only, Brian also will preside over a frame building seminar at cycles de ORO.

Then that night, CR folk will gather for dinner and drink at a nearby BrewPub near the Quaker Guilford College.

I will post more news as it breaks!

* It occurred to me that some of you may not know about Brian.. He started building fine bicycles at Masi USA in the startup period (Early 1970s.. Mario Confente time frame) He & fellow Masi man, Mike Howard went on to form Wizard cycles and then he went on his own nameplate, continuing until now as one of the USA's premier bicycle craftspersons. He also is quite knowledgeable about many categories of bicycles, most especially Italian and British.
