I used to run a 10 speed half-step (52/47 and 14-17-21-26-32). Nuovo Gran Sport and Nuovo Record derailleurs worked fine if I paid attention to the chain length. However, the lower, inner parallelogram pivot got very loose on the NGS, and I suspect that shifting up onto the 32 put a lot of stress on it. My Heron now has a 50/45 steel Sport and 13-32, but I put a Rally cage on the NR.
I seem to remember from Bicycling mag long ago that Ian Hibbel used a 32 tooth cog and a Nuovo Record on his touring bike. Is that guy still around or did he perish in some jungle somewhere?
