Hey C-R guys,

There are two kinds of fenders; one goes all around (not really, front 1/3, and rear about 1/2) tires, and short ones (about 10" each) covers brake calipers and near by parts; front bottom of HEAD, and top of the SEAT tube.

These little fenders I saw in Jack Taylor's Tour of Britain model, made of stainless steel by Weinnman weigh 30 to 40 grams each and supported by caliper mounting screws. It is very practical for protection of capliper mechanism if you think you maybe picking up dust and dirt from revolutions of wheels.

I remember in 60's touring bike with all around fenders, we had to have extra wide( I mean 6 to 8" by 8-9" long at the bottom of Frond fender to keep mud splashing up toward Botom bracket/chain wheel area. The rear one was protecting rear luggage carrier and tail light. These are my impression of practical fenders.

About cantilever brakes, Mafac had pair since early 60's(?) or before. I thought those were for "TRUCK" heavy load carrying bike called "Camping bike" . The road racer were interested in running faster and precise controls of braking not stopping power. If there were a road racer weigh 300 lb or more, he/she shuold have such brake and fat 650B tires to go on road racing. If I have to get behind such a rider, I would have enjoyed the super draft!

KEN TODA, I try to remember how the older road bike run, or I rode? Gloomy
