Roy,

I'd say a simple black or white helmet is about as retro as you're going to get, especially since no one actually wore helmets in the vintage days. But hey, I like my brains where they are, what little I have :-). So, I wear a helmet. I like white because I don't want to fry those brains on hot days, and drivers can see white better than black. So white it is.

It seems that the least expensive helmets from Bell, Giro, etc, have the lowest "techie" factor. I have a white Bell Oasis, and that works for me. The latest version of that lid seems to be the Solair. It's $30 or so, which I consider to be cheap insurance.

Ed.

OK, Monkeyman started it with his glove question, my apparel question has to do with a helmet. I'll need a new one for this season, and I'll be riding classic type bikes, with plain red or yellow jerseys, black shorts, white socks & dark shoes.

I'm looking at the Performance catalog, and all I see are candy-dipped & swirled aerodynamic cheese graters. What would be an appropriate rendezvouser (?) / ibob helmet? They don't make Bikers or V-1 Pros anymore...
