My wife has a high gloss grand piano that she uses windex to clean, so I'm not surprised at what works and what doesn't. For bike paint, I use a pure carnauba wax. I heat the wax in my hand & then apply it with my fingers. This allows me the opportunity to check with touch & sight every surface of the frame. You can buff it out immediately or let it dry first. If I haven't ridden in the rain, then this treatment only needs to be repeated annually with a light buffing after every ride. I use Ivory liquid soap & water to wash, very gently so not to scratch. Perhaps the best advice I've received is to use a clean rag for each step. Old T-shirts are great, but don't use the ones that have graphics on them--they might scratch. And, don't use the ones you have washed that were originally full of grease and grit--the grit is still there. Lou Deeter, Huntsville AL
