Update on the behind-the-scenes...
The CDO~CR site has been frozen in time for the moment apparently due to its size.. Here's a bit of the response from a CR hosting company (Advanced Web Creations) tech rep in response to my complaining I have not been able to add to & update the CR web site for nearly a week:
" .. there is a small problem ....(snip)....Your web space has nearly reached your 100 mb disk quota. Reinstalling your FP extensions will require additional space from your account. This means that we cannot fix your FP problem unless you free up some space from your directory."
I interpret that as meaning the CD~CR site is too big!
So I am proceeding with splitting up the two entities (CDO & CR) and registering the CR as a unique domain, as it's own web site, i.e., ClassicRendezvous.com.
This may change my approach to the site, as the costs to provide it will be totally my "hobby" rather than hiding it as a concealed business cost for cycles de ORO. I may add some banners to cover the costs (IF I can find interested parties!) The traffic has been high on the CR adding to cost but perhaps enticing some specialty advertisers.
Just for your interest, here are some stats from the CR site recently:
For February, 2001 (most recent complete month):
Total visits for month, all pages = 31,627 Total direct entries to Classic Rendezvous = 7,406
(How to interpret; many visitors go directly to key pages and do not enter through CR front page. The other most accessed pages are the Cirque main and the For sale & Wanted Classifieds.)
None of this will affect the Classic Rendezvous mailing list.
I would appreciate (off list would probably be best!) any advice or sharing of experiences that any of you have that will help keep this hefty ship afloat!
