Subject: [CR]campy hi lo hub question

Recently purchased a Campy HiLo hub set. Wasnt quite sure what I'd bought but thought it quite pretty. There was very minimal axle extension on either side of the locknuts on the rear hub and the OLD spacing measured 123. My guess was that the axle would make it about halfway across a dropout and that made me a little nervous. I wondered if someone had attempted to convert to 6 speed. When I took it apart I found a 1978 date on the side of the spacers. Guess that was correct given the Campy time line discussion. In reading recent archive discussions, someone mentioned that these HILo hubs were set up for Suntour Ultra 6 speed freewheels with123 mm spacing. Can anyone verify that? Was it standard Campagnolo practice? Might they have also been set up for 120/5 speed or was that disappearing by 1978?
Thanks
