Sounds like it has the 130mm long axle that is intended for use with a 120mm over-locknut dimension. That would be five-speed, not entirely extinct in 1978. Ultra-six should fit in the same space (30mm thread shoulder to locknut end). Its extremely doubtful that Campy ever went out of their way to accomodate anything Suntour. Given what sounds like inapproprate axle protrusion (hey, that sounds knida funny) I'd guess that someone added a couple of spacers after the hubs left the factory. On the other hand I have "factory" hubs with 137 mm and 134mm axles, both spaced at 126.5, but with different amounts of protrusion.
