I didn't use the term "race rims" but for one Mavic themselves say they are for racing (Track and Time Trialing). Back when I used to use them I was maybe 160lbs and I've broken at least 3 of the 330's and 2 280's. I like the rims but I'm hard on rims and wouldn't use the 330's for anything but racing. I know lots of people that have had great success with the rims, but personally they are "race rims" in my book. If they work great for you great.
