I unknowingly purchased one of these a few years back - I didn't know it was alloy and neither did the seller. We both found out when I picked it up in one hand and a regular Record freewheel in the other and noticed the dramatic difference in weight. At that time, I posted a query on news:rec.bicycles.tech and received a lot of good replies (imagine that! <g>).

The jist of what I was told was that these were truly "race-only" items, and that one might expect 500-1000 miles of use out of them and not more. With those provisios, they were otherwise fine to use. At the time, I sent mine back to the seller and he returned my money. Had I kept it then, I would still like to have it now; I doubt I would use it much, but I might attach it to a super-light wheelset and take those out once in a while.
