I think part of the confusion surrounding Cobaltos may be due to their being included in SR grouppos by at least one distributor. I don't really know why, but Ocshner (sp?) was selling SR groups w/ cobaltos (for about $500) in 1988 at the tail end of the SR era. Is it possible that other distributors did the same? Could this have had anything to do with what Campy was able to supply at the time? It seems like really late SR featured a healthy dose of C-record-ness. For example, it appears that Campy stopped using the plastics normally associated with SR lever hoods, cable housings and derailleur pulleys at the end of SR production and instead substituted C-record of Victory stuff. Also, the pedal axles, hub dust caps, and possibly the hub locknuts on SR suddenly became Victory/C-rec like in the final months. Certain logos also changed. I have an NR bb spindle with a shield logo, for example.

Anyway, the reason for the confusion might be that the products themselves were in a state of confusion.
