"In the old days" CDO had a standard procedure to help the campag dt shifters function.

We would disassemble the shifters and take the plastic internal washers (not possible on early models with all metal guts) and rough them up with a fairly course file.... just scrub them on all sides till they were a little fuzzy... Then tap out the shifter bosses with a bottoming tap (not tapered so it will cut all the way to the tip.) After that we would reassemble the whole deal with plenty of good old Campy grease, tightening the poop out of them, and they work pretty darn good!
