Bob, I don't understand this annoyance of some members with the subject of shoes. The fact is there are few shoes left that are truly suitable for riding with the toe clips and straps found on classic bikes, and fewer still that will take the old TA steel cleats or the special cleats for Cinelli M71s. If one's objective is to actually ride old bikes rather than hang them on the wall, I'd think that sources of suitable shoes are very much on topic, as are wool jerseys and shorts and real leather gloves, as the gear was as much a part of the classic bike experience as the bikes themselves. If we were debating the relative merits of SPD and Look pedals, you might have a point, but I haven't seen much of that. Grant at Rivendell sells classic style gear as well as classic style bikes and I think that makes perfect sense.

Gee Chuck thanks for sharing your opinion.....

Having been on the list for almost (but not quite) as long as yourself I've watched it change from an informative list in it's previous guise as a information sharing lightweight bicycle discussion group to a chat list about the relative merits of cycling shoes and the like I have to disagree.

When you get one response to a question about 531R and over 50 on "my favourite cycling shoe" it wears a bit thin. What next - 60+ postings about wether the stripe on Eddy Merckx's socks was brown or Molteni orange ? Personally I'm calling it a day with contributing to the list - but hey Chuck that's my right and my opinion.

Best regards and thanks to those who have provided much useful information over the last few years.
