Thanks to all of our musicians who checked in. There will be a concert scheduled. In order to have time to rehearse, I've set the concert date well ahead for February 30, 2005, at an as-yet-to-be-determined venue in Katmandu (to make it easy for us all to get there). Rehearsals will begin three days after the concert takes place. :->
There was certainly no concensus about favorite bikes, let alone ANY correlation of bikes to instruments played.
I have divided us up into performing ensembles as follows, roughly according to our interests:
** First is a very unusually comprised ROCK band consisting of:
Douglas Brooks on piano (doubling on tuba, and who would probably prefer to play cajun boogie), who will be arriving on a Richard Sachs; Greg Gagliano on guitar, who will be getting there on a Cinelli Super Corsa; and Tom Metcalf and Brian Baylis on drums, skidding in (oh, those drummers!) on a Raleigh and a Baylis, respectively.
** Next we will feature an extremely strange CLASSICAL ensemble consisting of:
Sheldon Brown, who will sing and will likely arrive on a Rene Herse; Charles Andrews and Paulie Davis on flutes sporting a 1972 Colnago Super Pantografata and a California Masi, respectively; Chris Beyer on trumpet (who would probably rather be playing world music), riding a Moulton; Ken Wehrenberg on piano who arrives on either a 50's Follis or a 70's Hi-E Cosmopolitan; Steve Friedes on classical guitar (subbing in on piano if needed) pedaling a Raleigh Team 1981; and Larry Black on clarinet (doubling Tenor Sax?!!) who plans to show up on his 30's day-racer with the all "sphere" theme -- should be interesting!
** We'll also have an unusual BLUES group consisting of only 3 guitars: Tom Adams riding in on an '82 red and yellow Marinonni, Russ Fitzgerald (contributing with strong folk leanings) on his Rivendell Road and Brian Caldwell on either an early Trek, a Falcon or a Fuji.
** To make things complete, we have some SUBS who can fill in wherever called upon. These folks like either everything musical, or music so unusual as to be uncategorized for the moment -- and I'm not saying who is who in that department, just to keep ya guessing:
Chuck Schmidt will be able to play either clarinet or oboe, and likes so many different kinds of bikes he's gonna need more time to select which one to ride.
Brandon "Monkeyman" Ives will be on drums (but could sub on violin or sax in a pinch) and will need to make that weighty decision about which bike to bring, too.
Mike Dearing will be able to hold forth on either guitar, fretless double bass or drums and will most likely ride in on a Hetchins.
Rumor has it Gian Bongiorno could be coaxed out of retirement on flute (doubling guitar), and my guess is he would show up on a late 70's Colnago or an early '80's carbon Peugeot.
And last but not least, Jerry Hyman will conduct as necessary, being retired from trombone and other low brass instruments. He'll be on either his Rivendell or a Redcay.
I don't think we wanna go wild with any list replies on this -- waaaay too off-topic! But I'll be happy to send you individual email addresses, if you don't have them already, for the other members of your designated ensembles, if you want to get started picking which tunes you'll play and/or gathering sheet music. <g>
Thanks to all again for a fun project for me, and we'll see you all in Katmandu in a few years!
