*Re: Wheel Weight and It's Effect on Humanity - I'd think some of you should enroll in Physics 141 at your local community college... you're obviously interested in the science, and you'll love the lab experiments. You'll learn how to properly test hubsets for rolling resistance, how chainring choice affects your potential power, how brakes actually stop your bike, why fixed gears are so much fun to ride, etc. You'll never think about your bike the same way again.

If our vintage lightweight information is as uninformed and inaccurate as some of the physics/alchemy we've been blurting-out this weekend, this list is in real trouble.

Re: Bellbrook Bike Swap - smallest turnout yet for the semi-annual event, the victim of late notice and perfect riding weather. I displayed the Legnano/Vittoria, Ed's Bianchi, '60 Olmo, '64 Girardengo, and 73 Atala. The Atala was most popular bike with the crowd, and the Vittoria "Margherita" on the Legnano left lots of folks scratching their heads. More than once I had to explain that no, I didn't make it myself, and yes, they actually used that for racing (albeit briefly).

Few vintage parts, but also few MTB parts, which is a good sign. Lots of used carbon forks and 3-year-old aero wheelsets - I brought home a pair of 1st-generation Shamal tubulars with cassette and Conti Sprinters for $100.

Nicest bike of the day was a 1980 Harry Quinn with custom paint by a local artist... it was several layers thick of transluscent brown, with gold trefoils stenciled in about thre coats down... very subtle and shiny from a distance, and absolutly magical up close. Whole bike was Nuovo Record, with gold-anodized aftermarket nuts bolts and washers. I'll post some pictures next week.

There'll be another swap/show/time trial in autumn... I hope to have earlier notice next time. :-)
