I'm running Conti SuperSport/Sport 1000 in 700c x 28 on a Raleigh Pro fixed-gear and they are quite dandy. Haven't measured them, but they are quite fat and comfy indeed.

Got to be somewhere between 25-28mm by the looks. They come wire-bead only though and are probably in the over 300g category. Available through REI for a whopping $13.

As I noted previously, the IRC "27 x1" Triathlon is really only 22mm wide, which is annoying if you want a real 1" or at least 25mm wide tire, which I am coming to think is actually a very nice width for both speed and comfort. Not only is there almost nothing available in a true 27 x1, but even in 700C x 25, the selection is pretty limited if you want a wire bead to use with classic rims with a less pronounced hook bead. Just for fun, I bought an IRC Road Winner Duro II, very similar to their Triathlon, but available in a nominal 27 x 1 1/8. I figured if this tire was mismarked by about the same amount as the Triathlon, it might be pretty close to a true 25mm, which is what I wanted. I also ordered the Duro II in a nominal 700 x 28, which I figured might actually be closer to a 700 x 25. Received the tires today, installed them on rims and inflated to 100psi, and VOILA - both measure between 24.5 and 25mm true width. This is a pretty nice tire, good wire bead, 105psi (10psi less than the Triathlon), "hybrid KV belt", advertised weight of 280gm, classic looking black tread with tan sidewall, moderate cost. Are these IRC's still being made and available to the LBS's and classic suppliers like Harris, or are a few large mail order places just selling of inventories?

Jerry Moos
