Not suggesting you do this in this case, but often times the date of manufacture is stamped on the inside of the outer casing of a sew-up. This could tell you about the last time the bike was probably ridden. The rear sew-up on a track bike that I had was a road sew up with a long cut in outer casing. Not really worth fixing. So I took it apart. There was a date of 11/94 on the inside. So the bike was probably ridden last 3 to 5 years ago.

Even if I don't own the bike, and many of you can do it better than I, but determining the time a bike is from is some fun detective work. Top tube brake cable clamps vs. braze ons, recessed brake holes, brakes, stem bolts, seatpost binders etc, always catch my eye. Ebay has shown me some things that I would never have seen otherwise, like the Leganano seatpost binder. Not real unique, but rare enough that I have never seen it in real life. I noticed it on some of those Japanese bikes too.

Oh yeah, crappy spray paint job = too often a bike stolen (maybe long ago) by a kid or limited capacity adult.
