The way I see it is Hoarding is getting something with the intent of holding onto it until you can make a profit with no concern about the item itself. Not that making a profit is wrong, I rarely sell things at a loss though I give A LOT of stuff away for free.

Collecting is more about the item with little or no concern to making a profit. It's really hard to keep from hoarding sometimes when you have something of real value. I havwe a rule about bike parts, I don't spend any money on bike parts that I didn't make selling bike parts. This rule sometimes makes me think in hoarding terms and I try my best to avoid that. In the early days of my "collecting" I also hoarded all the wrong things, so that's kept me from beliving in profit in bike parts.
