This stem first appeared at the 1952 Cycle Show in Paris and from the Rebour drawing and text of the article where the info came from it was designed to operate both front & rear brakes either simultaneously or in sequence !

Other interesting snippets from the show report -

- Mafac's "new" lightweight centre-pull c/w forged duralumin arms, bronze (not brass) bushes and provision for oiling !

- Gnome and Rhone duralumin frames

- A 700gm (1.1/2 pound) "cycle of the future" plastic frame "maquette" (mock-up....)

- Matching colours - frame, tyres, cable outers etc..... (needless to say red and blue were popular)!

- Herse ("Randonneuse" ?) 15-speed weighing in at 10.2 Kg c/w racks, guards & lights ! at 63,000 ff, or the 9.3 kg 10-speed "Paris-Brest" again c/w guards & dynamo lights !

- Both Alex Singer and Rene Herse featured annular bearings and cotterless cranks and such "specialities" from Singer as a Saddle pillar with "Hidden" fastenings (stem-like wedge bolt) and from Herse a disc covering the handlebar stem bolt serving as a nameplate.

- Both Herse and Singer featured "Velomoteur" models - but when asked why he didn't have any, an indignant Charles Pellisier replied "I am a cyclist and I am only interested in real cycles.........."
