the one i got seems to have a full cinelli lug set. it was pinned and not
tacked. it has great handling and tight geometry. it is as straight as a
columbus SL made in italy can be. so masi or de rosa didn't make it, some
excellent framebuilder from Lombardy did. story goes that Pellizolli (poker
face) started the company CIOCC with a real frame builder and that 2 brothers
were taught under him. the same brothers stayed with ciocc and handmade many
of the early bikes, late 70's into mid 80's. they made small numbers of
bikes per year in the old tradition and all were classic lugged racing
frames. i say the "me too" bikes have something going for them, quality
without paying for the name. i have seen some not so hot de Rosa's here in
nyc back in the 80's, so who knows. i am just glad to have something to ride
that gets me out there in the wind amidst the traffic where i can do 40 plus
alongside tractor trailers on 10th ave. with just my legs and a NOS 1" drive.
My "me too" bike rides like the dickens and i would not trade for anything
except a 1950s Frejus track in mint original paint complete with original
components and wood hoops in gloss black with cream and orange, and who knows
who made those, i like the looks and the handling. the legacy is what?
