I am on my third fixed gear wheel built with a concave, have six more rims to go and have been real happy with them. They are all the 20mm width. On this last one I mounted a Specialized Turbo 700x26 on it. I have ridden it several miles, and there is a flat spot from the tire on sitting on the rim evenly. This is the first time that I had that problem with concaves.
Last summer there was a thread on the Tandem Hobbes list about these tires blowing off the new Santanas they came on. My calipers measure the tire as 29mm, and I don't ride the bike too far from home.
Just a combination of rim and tire you might want to avoid.
I eat rear wheels, I am lucky to get two seasons out of one. Concaves really hold up. The Mavic CXP22?, that came on my Bianchi Pista took a good hit on a railroad track last summer with no damage to the rim, but I have broken four spokes since. I am tempted to rebuild the wheel with DT 14 ga spokes. when the CXP is destroyed, it will be replaced with a concave.
