I have access to two Brown Brothers catalogues from the UK and was wondering if there would be any demand from list members for photocopies of the info contained within their hallowed pages.
The company was a huge outfit stocking a vast range of cycle goods, mostly British-made, as well as producing its own line of bikes. Most British cities in post-war years could boast a Brown Brothers warehouse and many of the items in the catalogues were stocked at each. The company still exists, I understand, but mainly deals in car parts and paint.
If I remember rightly, one of the catalogues is from the 1930s and the other from the '50s.
There's lots of tremendous information including drawings and specifications of Brooks saddles, charts showing the interchangeability of parts between various SA hubs, drawings and specifications of Chater Lea products, details about lots of accessories, etc.
This is just scratching the surface, though. If it was produced in Britain at the time and of good quality, it will probably be in the catalogue.
There's some "foreign" stuff as well from companies such as Lyotard and Ideale.
The only actual bikes listed are the ones made for Brown Brothers, the name of which temporarily escapes me.
The catalogues belong to a friend and I don't think I could be bothered doing the photocopying if only a few people wanted the information.
Please email me off-list if interested.
Happy New Year!
Bruce Robbins.
