The Speedplay site says "1947- Self-clinching, quick-release toe strap is invented (Binda-type)". I have a picture of the pedals on Bartali's 1938 Tour de France Legnano, and it clearly has self-clinching qr toestraps. Ditto for Fausto Coppi's 1942 hour record Legnano

So, when were they REALLY invented?
